Hello 2014 and hello lunchtime. Today I believe I spent the best $6.99 of my life on a Tops BAR-B-Q Cheeseburger Combo with an ounce of pulled pork. It came with two sides and a drink. I left the lettuce and tomato off of the burger, added spicy BBQ sauce and chose fries and beans as my sides. The Tops burger is still a pretty thin patty seasoned with nothing but salt and pepper and topped with a slice of yellow American cheese. It’s impossible to compare it to thick juicy hamburger patties like you’d find at Alex’s or Buon Cibo. However, for what it is and what its priced, you can’t go wrong. Add an ounce of Tops BAR-B-Q’s tender pulled pork to the burger and their spicy BBQ sauce and you have all the makings for a great burger that’s within anyone’s budget. As for the sides, the beans were nicely seasoned with big chunky pieces of BBQ in every bite and while the fries were hot and crisp, they could’ve used a sprinkle of dry rub or another seasoning. If you’re serving crinkle-cut fries not aspiring to be like Ching’s Hotwings, you’re just not in it to win it. Tops BAR-B-Q is conveniently located all over the city, but from personal experience, I’ll go on record and say the Union Avenue store is the best of them all.
I’m gonna give this BBQ’d burger beauty 4 out of 5 Stars. It totally satisfied my Jones of both BBQ and a Burger today. Normally I’d prefer a thicker, juicer burger, but there’s no arguing that all the right tastes were served with this one.
