Each year the Memphis Flyer does a Best of Memphis review. It includes everything from car dealerships to radio personalities to hair salons to food categories. I enjoy the hype leading up to the results and anxiously await that special issue to be dropped at my office. It’s very prestigious and the winners earn bragging rights for the entire year. For as long as I can remember, Huey’s has been winning the Best Burger category. I can’t say I personally agree with the Flyer results, but I do believe the Memphis Flyer runs a fair competition. Congratulations Huey’s!

Recently, I decided  to run my own poll on the right side margin of this site. It ran for about a month, and while it didn’t have the overwhelming response that I was hoping for, I believe the results accurately reflect the Memphis burger scene.

Congratulations to Rocky at Alex’s Tavern for grabbing the victory on the Best Memphis Burger Reader’s Poll. If you haven’t tried the Greek Burger at Alex’s or haven’t had it in a long time, you should go get one! Now! They open every day at noon and stay open till the early hours of the morning. Word is it becomes exponentially better the later you order it. I say it’s pretty damn good at lunch time too. How this burger gets overlooked each year is beyond me. I wish a Huey Burger was half this good.

Note: Alex’s Tavern did place second this year in the BOM: Best Jukebox Category. I’d disagree with that result too. Their jukebox is nothing short of awesome!

  1. I tried to vote, but couldn’t figure out how to do so. I’d click around, look up and down the page, etc. but never got to place a vote.
However, my vote wouldn’t have upset the results. Alex’s is #1.
