I did a review on Burly’s Burgers Fries & Shakes late this past July. At the time, it was one of my favorite burgers. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars. Their fries, however, were nothing short of awesome. My favorite were their buffalo fries. I recall being disappointed that they were out of ice cream and weren’t serving shakes. It seems they ran out of ice cream all the time, and only one person I know of was able to score one of their shakes. Then they had a fire in the kitchen and were closed all throughout August and part of September. All the while, their website promised that when they reopened, they’d have shakes.
Since Tim had never been to Burly’s, we decided he needed to try their burger and I really wanted one of those elusive Burly’s shakes. We got there about 12:15 and they were fairly busy. After seating ourselves, a server came over with some menus and asked us what we wanted to drink. When we asked for shakes, she looked annoyed and told us she couldn’t make them because they were too busy. WOW! Really? I was more disappointed in the customer service, or lack thereof. A shake would have been nice, but the way she dismissed our request really irked me.
The burger was about as good as I remember it, although it was way over-cooked. Being as busy as they claimed to be, I figured I would have been served a medium-rare to medium burger instead of the well-done patty that I got. Tim really enjoyed his burger, even though his too was cooked well-done and past his requested temperature.
Our server also gave us a rude sigh when we asked for separate checks. I can understand that she was busy, but Memphis is such a small town when it comes to word of mouth. Word gets out fast. I just don’t understand treating a customer poorly when they’re paying for services. I don’t really hold anything against her. However, my message for the owner is, get it together and talk to your staff about customer service. Hire more staff if needed. You have a good thing going there, but if you can’t teach your staff to treat customers well, you won’t make it. I don’t plan on going back until I hear things have changed.
Let me know what your Burly’s experience is like.
